Steve Smith bats ahead of 2nd ODI: In India, cricket is celebrated above all religion. Ironically, its not the national sports of the country, but no game comes close to the madness and excitement of cricket in India. Fans consider every match very seriously and the opponent, whoever it is, becomes every fans rival. Small rivalry happens between the players as well. This time the clash was between Australian and Indian captain but it seems, Steve Smith bats for peace ahead of ODI to ease the conflict.
Why Steve Smith bats hard on the net?
A verbal encounter took place between Steve Smith and Virat Kohli in the first innings of second India versus Australia Test. Steve Smith felt Virat was too aggressive and thus a chain of heated verbal exchange followed between the two on the 3rd day of the second test. Since both the players are professional, they prefer to nip the dispute at the bud.
They are experienced enough to let go of these petty matters and focus on their main devotion, that is playing cricket. Before the beginning of one day international (ODI) matches, Steve Smith conveyed the message that he is hoping to play the matches with good spirit.
The reason behind it and why was it wrong!
This year during a test match series between India and Australia, Steve Smith was declared to be dismissed by an LBW ball by the umpire. According to rules, each team is allowed to make almost two unsuccessful review requests per innings in a test match.
Only the ‘distinctly incorrect’ decisions are altered. After declared ‘LBW out’ by the umpire, Steve Smith in order to decide whether to oppose the decision or not, looked up towards the dressing room. Inside the dressing room, his team-mates were looking at the same replay of the Smith’s dismissal, played via television. Looking for a proof before challenging is wrong!
While playing, situations where players opt for 3rd umpire’s help over the actual decision of the umpire, they are not allowed to receive any outside information. This enraged Kohli. The Australian skipper accepted his action, calling it a ‘brain fade moment’ and everybody hopes that Steve Smith bats for peace ahead of ODI.
As quoted by the players.
The reaction of both the captain on this matter has differed extensively. Kohli, at the last press conference at Dharamshala slamming the Aussies for this matter. Steve Smith, on the other hand, expresses to play the upcoming ODI in ‘good spirit’.
He tries to keep their differences away from their professional careers and praised Kohli for having a phenomenal record holder in ODI. He even called him a good player.
What’s going on in the ODI?
As the history of cricket goes, in 2013 Australia lost the ODIs in India by 3-2. But in 2016, they humbled their position by scoring 4-1 against India.
This series is getting the fans on the edge of their seats. Indian team is focusing more on rookie spinners to counter the Aussie batting. The fast-bowling lineup of the Indian team which includes Umesh Yadav is also looking quite strong!
